Golden Gates Casino Details
Golden Gates Casino has one of the biggest poker rooms in Colorado, with around 20 tables of action offered every hour of the day and night. Based in the Colorado gambling hotspot of Black Hawk, the establishment describes its poker section as a “Poker Parlour.” This seems accurate given that the playing area is segregated from the rest of casino floor and commands its own room.
The Golden Gates Poker Parlour is based upon a cottage or log-cabin design. Exposed stonework and wood is seen all around this clean and bright room. The 10-handed tables are set with dark brown leather seats on top of light brown wave-patterned carpet. With retro television screens mounted all around the room, players are able to watch sports and keep track of tournament information from their chairs.
Comps can be accumulated here and exchanged for many meal options. Tableside food delivery is one of the options given to users of this service — giving access to the full range of food available in the casino’s bars, cafes, and restaurants. On a daily basis, players have access to no-limit hold’em, limit hold’em, and pot-limit Omaha cash games in addition to split-pot games if enough interest can be demonstrated to the card room manager. Golden Gates Poker Parlour is also the venue of several major annual tournaments. The Heartland Poker Tour makes a televised stop here and provides an event that often generates more than $1 million in guaranteed prize money. Colorado residents are also attracted to the Colorado Poker Championship, which tends to boast at least half of that amount in prizes every August and September. Daily poker tournaments also take place at least four times per day at a more affordable level for recreational players and low-stakes grinders.

The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) has confirmed dates for many of their stops in 2020, which marks their 11th season. More stops are expected to be added to the schedule, and PokerNews is slated to offer live updates from nearly all events.
MSPT Heads to Colorado
Season 11 will kick off January 15-19 with a $360 buy-in, $150K GTD Regional Event at Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Situated about an hour west of Denver in a scenic mountain gully, the stop will play host to two trophy events and five Nightly $135 Deep Stack tournaments.
Last April, Aaron Frei won his first MSPT trophy after topping a 778-entry field to win the first $360 MSPT Golden Gates Regional, and amazingly he returned in November to go back-to-back by defending his title in a 915-entry field to win the second $360 MSPT Golden Gates Regional Event of Season 10 after a four-way chop, earning $36,607.
The upcoming $360 Regional Event will feature four starting flights at Noon each day starting Wednesday, January 15 through Saturday, January 18. The surviving players from those flights will then return on Sunday, January 19 to play down to a winner.
The MSPT is slated to return to Golden Gates from April 13-19, during which time they’ll host a $1,100 buy-in Main Event. Visit msptpoker.com for more details.
MSPT Cleveland Poker Open January 16-19
The first Main Event of the MSPT Season 11 is the $1,110 buy-in, $300K GTD Cleveland Poker Open at JACK Cleveland Casino. PokerNews will be there to live report that tournament.
The 2020 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open – a 21 or older event – will take place January 16-19 and will be preceded by a series of $70, $145 and $265 satellites where every single satellite boasts a 10-seat guarantee. The stop will mark the MSPT’s 164th Main Event and the fourth ever at JACK Cleveland Casino.
In 2018, the inaugural MSPT Cleveland Poker Open attracted 581 entrants and saw Abdul “Dulie” Amer capture the title and $118,350 first-place prize.
Golden Gates Casino Poker Tournament Schedule
The MSPT Season 10 Cleveland Poker Open last January drew 725 entries creating a $703,250 total prize pool, which made it by far the largest major poker tournament ($1K+ buy-in) in Cleveland’s history, breaking the MSPT's own record from the previous year. In the end, it was Sean Munjal who navigated the field to take down a $140,654 top prize.
